Consumer Data Rights (CDR) is the cornerstone of Australia's new data economy. It is a general right created for consumers to control their data, including who can have it and who can use it.
What cdr means for energy retailers
Under the Consumer Data Rights rules, all NEM electricity retailers are required to share data, however only Origin, AGL and EA are required to participate from 1 October 2022. All other retailers have until 1 October 2023 to be compliant and share data within the scheme. The datasets include data held by the retailer (customer name, contact details, billing data and energy usage data) and AEMO data (including metering data and NMI standing data).
